Hermes

Connect Hermes to AuraRoute

Hermes talks to any server that implements /v1/chat/completions. These commands make that server AuraRoute.

Flow

  1. Create an AuraRoute key — Dashboard → API keys. Copy az_live_… once.
  2. Install Hermes — The official installer puts the hermes command on your PATH.
  3. Set the custom endpoint — provider custom, base URL https://auraroute.dev/api, model agent, key in ~/.hermes/.env.
  4. Start Hermes — hermes opens the agent. Its model calls go to AuraRoute.
  5. Requests are routed — Tool calls hit the agent workload. Failover happens before the first token.

Commands

1. Create a key

Create a free account, then open API keys and create one. Copy the az_live_… value. It is shown once.

2. Install Hermes

Linux, macOS, or WSL2. Git and curl have to be installed already.

bash
curl -fsSL https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/install.sh | bash
source ~/.bashrc

3. Save the key where Hermes reads it

bash
mkdir -p ~/.hermes
touch ~/.hermes/.env
chmod 600 ~/.hermes/.env
printf 'AURAROUTE_API_KEY=%s\n' 'az_live_...' >> ~/.hermes/.env

4. Point Hermes at the gateway

bash
export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
hermes config set model.provider custom
hermes config set model.base_url https://auraroute.dev/api
hermes config set model.default agent
hermes config set model.api_mode chat_completions
hermes config set model.key_env AURAROUTE_API_KEY

The same result, written straight into ~/.hermes/config.yaml:

yaml
model:
  provider: custom
  default: agent
  base_url: https://auraroute.dev/api
  api_mode: chat_completions
  key_env: AURAROUTE_API_KEY
  context_length: 131072

5. Check, then start

bash
curl -fsS https://auraroute.dev/api/models \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $AURAROUTE_API_KEY"

hermes

One script

Linux, macOS, or WSL2. It installs Hermes with setup skipped, writes the key into ~/.hermes/.env, sets the custom endpoint, and checks the key with GET /models. The key is not printed.

bash
#!/usr/bin/env bash
# Install Hermes Agent and point it at AuraRoute.
# Linux, macOS, or WSL2. Needs git and curl.
set -euo pipefail

BASE_URL="https://auraroute.dev/api"
